Influencer marketing

Measuring influencer campaign success: KPIs by goal

In short

You measure an influencer campaign against the metric agreed as its goal before launch — not by reach alone. For awareness, views in the right audience count; for consideration, saves, shares and branded search; for sales, tracked purchases via links, codes and landing pages. Add the content value: assets that later perform as ads.

Set up tracking before launch

  1. Create a separate UTM link per creator
  2. Issue individual codes if codes fit the offer
  3. Provide a landing page or parameters that match the post
  4. Agree insights access in the contract: which figures, when, in what form
  5. Record baseline values, such as branded search and direct traffic

Why discount codes alone show too little

Many people see a post but buy later via search or directly in the shop. Codes also end up on coupon sites and get attributed to creators who did not trigger the purchase. Codes are a signal, not a complete measurement — look at several sources at once.

From figure to decision

  • Compare creators by cost per result, not reach
  • Compare angles and hooks: which reason to buy carries?
  • Extend the strongest posts as ads
  • Carry learnings into the next brief

Common mistakes

  • Setting the goal only after the campaign
  • Reporting only reach and likes
  • Not recording baseline values
  • Not settling insights access in the contract
  • Choosing a measurement window that is too short although purchases happen with delay

FAQ

Which KPI matters most in influencer marketing?
The one that fits the goal. For a launch it is views in the target audience and branded search; for performance campaigns it is tracked purchases or leads. There is no single universal metric.
How long should you measure after a campaign?
Longer than the campaign itself. Purchases often happen with delay, and posts are still seen days later. Set the measurement window before launch so every creator is assessed the same way.
